QCBS SYMPOSIUM 2026: Municipalities and Biodiversity Day: Integrating Science into Action

We are pleased to contribute to the organization of the first day of the Colloquium of the Quebec Center for Biodiversity Science (QCBS), a flagship event that brings together researchers and municipal stakeholders committed to protecting biodiversity.



The QCBS Conference is an important annual event for sharing advances in biodiversity science in Quebec. It highlights innovative initiatives and strengthens collaboration between academia, municipalities, government, and communities.


Day 1: Municipalities and biodiversity


Under the theme “Municipalities and biodiversity: integrating science into action,” this day brings together researchers, municipal decision-makers, and field workers to better understand local issues and identify concrete courses of action.


Date: February 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location: UQAM's Coeur des sciences (175 President Kennedy Avenue, Montreal) and online

Objectives of the day:
  • Promote links between science and municipal practice.

  • Identify possible projects and collaborations to support biodiversity.

  • Better understand the realities on the ground and the role of science in decision-making.

  • Biodiversité Québec: Data at the service of municipalities

  • Center for Applied Research on Biodiversity and Ecosystems (CRABE): Ecological restoration planning in a municipal context

  • RNCREQ: Regional cooperation in the fight against invasive alien species (IAS)

  • Initiative québécoise Corridors écologiques (IQCÉ): Ecological connectivity project in municipalities

  • Habitat: Environmental consulting firms serving municipalities


Panel on the reality of cities, with:

  • Maud Allaire, Mayor of Contrecoeur and Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Commission of the Union of Quebec Municipalities (UMQ)

  • Marc-André Guertin, Mayor of Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Chair of the Environment and Ecological Transition Commission of the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM)

  • Louise Hénault-Éthier, Head of the Biodiversity, Adaptation and Resilience Division of the City of Montreal's Office of Ecological Transition and Resilience (BTER)

  • Valérie Ebacher, urban planner (OUQ) and land use planning and urban development coordinator at Vivre en Ville

  • David Roy (moderator), Executive Director of Ateliers pour la biodiversité
