We are very pleased to announce the publication of this report, which marks a key milestone in a collective effort undertaken in recent months by Finance Montréal, CRABE (Center for Applied Research on Biodiversity and Ecosystems), Credo, and our team.
Between February and March 2025, 38 organizations from the finance, research, non-profit, and other sectors helped define the conditions necessary to better integrate biodiversity into financial decisions in Quebec.
The report proposes a strong common vision, supported by seven strategic directions:
Increase the competence of financial actors
Prepare the next generation
Support access to independent scientific expertise
Reduce technical barriers to biodiversity integration
Harmonize indicators to strengthen sectoral consistency
Provide a structured framework for financial and economic actors
Create effective and attractive investment tools for biodiversity
These guidelines are complemented by 15 concrete actions, ranging from training decision-makers to pilot projects, data standardization, strengthening collaborative research, and creating new nature-related financial products.
This work demonstrates that by mobilizing the government, financial institutions, the scientific community, investors, and non-profit organizations, it is possible to structure a credible path to put biodiversity back at the heart of decision-making.
